瓦格納教授主要研究領域是公民參與、城市治理、公共政策分析，是國際著名的定性研究方法論專家。他在Public　Administration　Review，　American　Review　of　Public　Administration，　and　Urban　Studies等公共管理專業期刊發表論文多篇，並在劍橋大學出版社、勞特里奇出版社出版著作Deliberative　policy　analysis（Cambridge　University　Press，　2003），　Meaning　in　Action：Interpretation　and　Dialogue　in　Policy　Analysis（Routledge，　2011）and　Practices　of　Freedom：Decentred　Governance，　Conflict　and　Democratic　Participation（Cambridge　University　Press，　2014）。
