Session 5. Defense Planning in a time of Budgetary Constraint
The U.S.plans to reduce approximately $600 billion of its defense budget over the next 10 years based on "Budget Sequestration" launched in May 2013.In such a situation, the Obama Administration is making an attempt on personnel reduction and defense budget cuts. The countries in the region that do not have drastic budget reduction even share the common task to ensure defense capacity under the budget pressure. Therefore,it is needed to reform the inefficient way of managing defense budget, and reduce the budget by making efforts on efficient management. The ROK government has set "Future-oriented Management Innovation" as its national goal, and is making efforts on efficient defense management as well.
In this session, the following issues will be discussed:
- Effects of the U.S.'defense reduction on its defense policy and management.
- What is the lesson-learned from the U.S. case for the countries in the region that are experiencing defense budget reduction?
- Sharing the cases of on-going efficient defense management with other countries.
- What are the ways that efficient defense management can contribute to economic&social development?
- Along with the U.S.,What is a way of collaboration among the countries for efficient defense management? |
